The blog’s ABOUT excerpt:

In October 2009 Spike Jonze’s feature film rendition of Maurice Sendak’s classic story Where The Wild Things Are will hit movie theaters worldwide. The film represents years of work from hundreds of different artists, writers, photographers, musicians, actors, and creators of all degrees. This place has been established to help shed some light on many of the small influences that have converged to make this massive project a reality.

Simply put, this a place to learn about things we think are great and to share with you the things those things helped make. Wild Things indeed… And also probably a lot of other randoms things that catch our eye along the way.

We hope you like it.

We love you so.

It’s either the coolest idea imaginable, or quite possibly the silliest one. Take an already existing structure like the Mega Ramp, hand build a scaled down version of one yourself in your own backyard, obtain sponsors, and attempt to do the jump while documenting your entire project from start to finish. Keep us posted you guys, and good luck!

“Socrates Leal is a skateboarding videographer who has worked in the skateboarding industry for 15 plus years. I met Socrates back when I was working for Globe Footwear and we moved into the Dwindle offices. With his experience in the industry from the early 90’s, I was inspired to interview Soc and share his stories, that became a 2 1/2 hour conversation. We talk about his intro to skateboarding and working for World Industries at its peak in the 90’s. The interview was done in 2006 and yeah its been a long time coming to post up. I am stoked on how Soc tells his story and hope you enjoy it. The audio is broken up into 4 sections - the audio was done with Express Dictate over the phone…so bear with me on the sound.” - Freddy Medina

I was up early this morning watching the Today Show as I do so often before I go to work. While sitting there on our couch, enjoying a bowl of cereal, I notice all the shoes in our guest bedroom that seem to be literally looking at me, almost talking to me. I had to take a couple of pictures for the illustration.

They were looking at me, with their eyes.

The Tower of Babel?

Then I began to think. Am I a Sneakerhead? What exactly is the definition of a “sneakerhead” anyway? So I looked to urban diction, which gave these answers:

1. A person who collects limited, rare, OG, or flat out exclusive kicks. Usually the collection consists of Jordans or Dunks. Or, a person with background knowledge of certain sneakers.

2. Somebody who owns a number of sneakers and is always up on the latest J’s that come out. Their collections consist of rare, vintage, and collectable sneakers from classic Chuck Taylor’s to custom Nikes.

Now I don’t really fit into either of those categories, I just have a lot of shoes. Honestly, I could care less about all the different types of Dunks that come out, their perceived value, and how many or how little are in circulation. I’m just fortunate enough to have friends that work at NikeSB to hook me up with shoes from time to time. Humble or not, I can’t say that I have EVER bought a pair of Nike’s and I own all sorts of Dunks and Blazers.

It is nice to have friends that are sales reps for companies like Vans and Fallen Footwear and TMs and Designers for companies like NikeSB. However, my house is now officially cluttered with all the shoes I’ve since acquired while I’ve known them!! Guys, it’s getting ridiculous.

Sneakerhead, I am not. Shoe admirer and fashion victim, yes.

The guys at The Skateboard Film Festival are hard at work with a viral video in the works called LURKIN’. Apparently it stars Mike Carroll as himself. No other information about the video has been confirmed at this time.

Ever wonder what happened to ex-Real Skateboards Pro Shawn Mandoli? Do you even remember him? The spectacled young side-kick of Salman Agah in the early to mid-90s who skated switch oftentimes better than he did regular? Of course, if you were rolling with Salman Agah at that time, you’d be bound to skate switch for a week straight to force yourself how (Salman was often seen doing this). Anyway, Shawn can be seen in this video below on a recent trip to Egypt.
