Louis Vuitton Skateboard – Has skateboarding gone too far?

by skateornot on Jan.07, 2009, under stooops

It seems my wife and I both have expensive taste in the things we love. Her, with handbags, and me, with skateboards.

Looks like Louis Vuitton is now making collector edition skateboards. Has our once hated and misunderstood sport finally gone too far with it’s popularity? I hope not.

This is kind of ridiculous. I honestly hope no one buys this. But sadly, some actor from The Hills or The City probably will. Boooosh!

Vans partners with Hangout.net

by skateornot on Oct.31, 2008, under misc, shoes, stooops

Online social networks seem to be getting weirder and weirder everyday. From the Vans blog:

“So what’s this about again? The idea is that you & all of your friends create rooms. By playing games or meeting challenges you earn points that can buy your avatar cool stuff to wear or decorate your “room.” All brands & items in the system are based on real brands and actual items those brands sell. by skateornot on Oct.17, 2008, under news, shoes, stooops

by skateornot on Sep.13, 2008, under industry, news, stooops

VitalSkate is apparently throwing in the towel and giving up after a couple of years of trying to blow the site up to MySpace and Facebook proportions. VitalSkate’s content director sent out this email announcing his resignation:

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that today is my last day working for VitalSkate.com. You can reach me at mikemetcalfXXX@gmail.com, or on my cell at 619-471-XXXX. Thanks for everything.

When are they going to learn that the kids just want to use the same tools as everyone else does in the world to publish their ISH: facebook, myspace, and youtube. You may recall a similar attempt at a social networking site by Salman Agah and Dave Metty a couple years ago that also went bust? It was called Icelounge. We all know skateornot.com was launched the first all skateboarding social networking site in August 2002. That manifestation of the site that is still live can be found here.
